I've defitely had the sort of week I'll remember for the rest of my life.

Monday was unfortunately my last day at the elementary school. My
contract was up for renewal and as much as I loved the students and
teachers, my goal is to teach at the high school level and I felt it in my
best interest to spend the rest of the fall substituting there.

Tuesday morning I spit cider all over my monitor when I opened up my
email. The lead sports editor for our local semi-major paper was trying
to get in touch.

Thursday a friend of my mom's with an MFA in creative non-fiction
writing called to say she'd gotten a hold of some things I've written.
"They're good, and not in a your-my-friend's-son kind of way. She said I
have "it" and wants me to start sending things in to reader's digest.

Friday I got another email out of the blue. It went like this. "Dave and I
agree that you need to be a writer. When are you going to start sending
your .... in?"

All three instances were totally unconnected.

Today I got a phone call asking me to play a role in a short film. The
director is an art professor with a 75% acceptance rate in various film
festivals (the average is more like 1 in every 10).

7 times out of 10, you could call what I write, humor. Over the past year
I've made a real committment not to be funny in a way that could make
someone else feel bad about their life. It's so easy to do dry sarcasm, but
a strong belief of mine is that my faith is forming me to be someone
different. One of my hero's is Bill Cosby.

This week's isn't something I look at as an open door - I see it as an
affirmation. That trying hard not to be dark isn't an automatic closed
one. It's definitely been affirming.

Thank you all very much.

Anthony, I want to be a teacher. It's not my dream job, but it's a pretty
good mix of related to whatI really enjoy, stability, and not being so tied
into a job it becomes my existence. I need a good mix of giving me my
freedom and giving me a paycheck. Not to say I slouch on it. I really
enjoy being at the schools and doing what I can do to offer some
exposure to enjoying your imagination.

If I were to differentiate between vocation as what makes my heart beat,
and occupation as what I do to support myself, I'd say my vocation is
story-telling. I love finding them around my life, writing them, telling
them to people, and so forth. I love writing. Acting is awesome too.

Serge, that's a weighty compliment. Thank you. I have a lot of thoughts
about it. Primarily not liking you here yourself describe yourself that way

Very cool James. I always take notice when things happen in three's .

Keep us posted of course, I for one sure liked the written piece you did on the tether ball.

Thanks guys. I layed the thether ball piece out. I've read it so many
times it's not funny to me any more and I start wondering what to
change. Then I have to make myself hold back.

Hey James,

Just finally caught this! Good on you Man! Writing is indeed like fine woodworking, you are creating something with the intent that it will long out live your physical self, and it should also tell others something about you.

Congrats....

Shane
